Are you willing to sacrifice your quality of life to sleep apnea?
Sleep apnea is linked to diabetes, high blood pressure, depression, heart disease, stroke, sudden cardiac death, snoring, a tendency to get sick easier and more.
But the American Academy of Medicine recommends a trip to the dentist as the first course of treatment for mild or moderate sleep apnea, and that could save you having to wear bulky medical breathing devices in your sleep.
Dental Sleep Apnea Treatment
At Family Smiles of Layton, we can screen you to find out if the oral devices we can prescribe will fit your needs and keep you from experiencing the symptoms of sleep apnea.
Patients take a questionnaire to see if they’d be a good fit for dental sleep apnea treatment.
Then, the doctor will check your mouth for signs of sleep apnea like teeth grinding.
After qualification, we’ll determine your “sleep score” combined with a simple sleep study you perform at home with equipment we provide.
We then work with a medical doctor to diagnose your condition and prescribe treatment, which usually includes an oral ‘appliance.’
The devices resemble a clear retainer that keep you from grinding your teeth or snoring by pushing your tongue jaw slightly forward through the night.
After 6 months, we follow up to make sure your prescribed treatment is providing you the rest you need and letting you breathe easy through the night.
